For you to identify with story behind the reason we celebrate Bonfire Night, then you are supposed to be aware of the the yesteryears.

The evening goes back to fifth year of the seventeenth century to the Gunpowder Plot. That year, some Catholic revolutionaries rose against the King objecting the persecution of the Catholic church.

In line with the command of King James 1, the Catholic Church was assailed. This occurred because the monarchy endorsed Protestants. Some Catholic men countered by detonating the Houses of parliament.

The material to be used for the devastation were barrels of gunpowder located beneath the building. They were to be sparked once the king and other officials were in the confines of parliament.

The attack was scheduled for 5th November in 1605. The connivers expected to kill the ruler in the process and other leading figures in the structure responsible for persecuting Catholics.

The scheduled assault failed to launch since state officials learned of the plot before Guy Fawkes could blow up the gunpowder.

It is claimed that the flopping of the Gunpowder Plot was due to misunderstanding between the plotters. A few grew uncomfortable with the method due to the losses it would have wrought, and one of the conspirators forewarned the state by sending an unsigned letter.

The same night, those devoted to the King toasted to the failed plan and his welfare by starting bonfires and setting off fireworks. Since then, it evolved into a customary affair that has seen many generations.

Bonfire Night is honored as a remembrance of the abortive undertaking by Catholic radical elements to do away with the king and other monarchy agents in 1605. The night in addition functions as a pointer of the danger faced by rulers.

You should keep in mind that Bonfire Night is not an official public holiday. It’s closer to a tradition honored by protestants more than Catholics whose adherents were responsible for the conspiracy.
