Guy Fawkes Night  is held every year  on November 5. It is also designated as Bonfire Night and observes the anniversary the discovery of a conspiracy organized by Catholic connivers to obliterate the Houses of Parliament in London in 1605. Many people ignite bonfires and light up fireworks.

For you to grasp why we honor Bonfire Night, then you should learn the past.

The day dates back to fifth year of the seventeenth century to the Gunpowder Plot. That year, some Catholic extremists rose against the King dissenting the injustice against the Catholic church.

Under the leadership of King James 1, the Catholic Church came under fire. This occurred because the king favored Protestants. Some Catholic men reacted by detonating the Houses of parliament.

The contraption to be used for the attack were barrels of gunpowder placed underneath the assembly. They were to be ignited while the king and other representatives were in parliament.

The assault was set for 5th November in 1605. The plotters desired to assassinate the king in the process including other noted people inside the building culpable of tormenting Catholics.

The scheduled action aborted when law officers became aware of the plot before Guy Fawkes could detonate the gunpowder.

It’s rumored that the non-success of the Gunpowder Plot was caused by differences between the people involved. A few grew disturbed with the strategy due to the devastation it would have effected, and one of the plotters notified the monarchy by sending an unacknowledged note.

That evening, those dedicated to the Monarchy rejoiced the aborted scheme and his welfare by starting bonfires and blasting fireworks. From that time, it turned out to be a habitual occasion that has been passed down the generations.

Bonfire Night is commemorated as a recognition of the botched undertaking by Catholic conspirators to murder the king and other state representatives in 1605. The night also serves as a pointer of the hazards faced by politicians.

You should not forget that Bonfire Night isn’t a formal public holiday. It is more like a tradition honored by protestants more than Catholics whose followers were responsible for the plot.
