Lots of participants light bonfires and touch off fireworks.

For you to understand the rationale why honor Bonfire Night, then you must be aware of the past.

The night can be traced to 1605 to the Gunpowder Plot. That year, a few Catholic radicals decided to take action against the Monarchy disapproving the injustice against Catholics.

Under the leadership of King James 1, the Catholic religion came under attack. This unfolded because the monarch preferred Protestants. Some Catholic men countered by leveling the Houses of parliament.

The instrument to be used for the attack were barrels of gunpowder placed under the house. They were to be ignited once the king and other representatives were in parliament.

The assault was scheduled for 5th November in 1605. The plotters desired to execute the ruler in the act in addition to other popular statesmen in the building behind the mistreatment of the Catholic faithful.

The expected assault failed to launch because law enforcement unearthed the ploy before Guy Fawkes could blow up the gunpowder.

It is claimed that the flopping of the Gunpowder Plot was as a result of squabbles among the planners. Some grew apprehensive with the method due to the devastation it would have brought, and one of them notified the rulers by sending an anonymous letter.

That night, those dedicated to the Monarchy celebrated the aborted plot and his well-being by lighting bonfires and lighting fireworks. From that day, it turned out to be a customary event that has entertained lots of generations.

Bonfire Night is commemorated as a tribute of the unsuccessful effort by Catholic conspirators to assassinate the monarch and other sovereign representatives in 1605. The night in addition functions as an indication of the risks faced by rulers.

You should note that Bonfire Night is not a legal public holiday. It’s more like a ceremony honored by protestants more than Catholics whose followers were responsible for the scheme.
