For you to understand story behind the reason we commemorate Bonfire Night, then you must learn the history.

The celebration can be traced to 1605 to the Gunpowder Plot. That year, a crew of Catholic revolutionaries went against the Monarchy in protest against the mistreatment of the Catholic church.

In line with the authority of King James 1, the Catholic Church was attacked. This occurred due to the fact that the monarchy favored Protestants. Some Catholic men retaliated by leveling the Houses of parliament.

The weapon to be used for the devastation were drums of gunpowder set underneath the building. They were to be ignited while the king and other noblemen were in parliament.

The bombing was expected on 5th November in 1605. The machinators anticipated to kill the king in the action including other famous statesmen in the house behind the mistreatment of the Catholic faithful.

The planned devastation was ineffective because law officers found out about the scheme before Guy Fawkes could blast off the gunpowder.

It’s rumored that the non-success of the Gunpowder Plot was caused by differences between the planners. Some became disturbed with the approach considering the devastation it would have brought, and one of the conspirators notified the authority by sending an anonymous letter.

The same night, those loyal to the Monarchy toasted to the aborted plan and his well-being by lighting bonfires and blasting fireworks. From that time, it turned out to be a customary occasion that has seen many generations.

Bonfire Night is commemorated as a tribute of the abortive attempt by Catholic radical elements to assassinate the king and other monarchy representatives in 1605. The night in addition remains a warning of the danger faced by statesmen.

You should note that Bonfire Night isn’t a recognized public holiday. It’s similar to a practice commemorated by protestants more than Catholics whose followers were responsible for the plan.
