Guy Fawkes Night  is commemorated each year  on November 5. It is sometimes known as Bonfire Night and observes the day of observance of the disclosure of a strategy controlled by Catholic manipulators to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London in 1605. Many participants light bonfires and set off fireworks.

For you to discern story behind the reason we honor Bonfire Night, then you are supposed to learn the history.

The night goes back to 1605 to the Gunpowder Plot. That year, certain Catholic extremists decided to take action against the King objecting the oppression of Catholics.

Under the reign of King James 1, the Catholic religion was assailed. The justification for this was due to the fact that the king preferred Protestants. A group of catholic men decided to retaliate by flattening the Houses of parliament.

The instrument to be used for the devastation were casks of gunpowder located underneath the house. They were to be detonated when the king and other noblemen were in the confines of parliament.

The bombing was expected on 5th November in 1605. The plotters desired to execute the king in the act including other popular officials in the building guilty of oppressing Catholics.

The scheduled action was botched since the police discovered the scheme before Guy Fawkes could detonate the gunpowder.

It’s opined that the collapse of the Gunpowder Plot was caused by squabbles among the planners. A few became apprehensive with the method because the damage it would have caused, and one of the conspirators informed the authority by sending an unsigned letter.

The same night, those faithful to the King toasted to the botched scheme and his safety by starting bonfires and blasting fireworks. From that day, it became a frequent occasion that has seen many generations.

Bonfire Night is celebrated as a recognition of the botched attempt by Catholic fanatics to assassinate the king and other government officials in 1605. The night also serves as a warning of the risks faced by statesmen.

You should note that Bonfire Night is not a recognized public holiday. It’s closer to a ceremony remembered by protestants more than Catholics whose followers were responsible for the plan.
