For you to identify with story behind the reason we celebrate Bonfire Night, then you should learn the the yesteryears.

The evening dates back to 1605 to the Gunpowder Plot. That year, a group of Catholic fanatics decided to take action against the Crown in protest against the injustice against the Catholic church.

Going by the leadership of King James 1, the Catholic religion was attacked. The reason was on account of the fact that the monarch backed Protestants. A group of catholic men decided to retaliate by detonating the Houses of parliament.

The material to be used for the deed were casks of gunpowder located underneath the assembly. They were to be detonated the moment the king and other officials were in parliament.

The bombing was scheduled for 5th November in 1605. The plotters intended to assassinate the ruler in the melee and other prominent people within the building guilty of oppressing the Catholic church.

The planned deed failed to launch since the police discovered the scheme before Guy Fawkes could ignite the gunpowder.

It’s rumored that the defeat of the Gunpowder Plot was caused by differences among the plotters. A few were uncomfortable with the plot due to the losses it would have brought, and one of them warned the monarchy by sending an unsigned note.

That night, those faithful to the Monarch jubilated the botched plan and his safety by lighting bonfires and exploding fireworks. From that day, it became a customary function that has entertained lots of generations.

Bonfire Night is honored as a testimonial of the botched endeavor by Catholic radical elements to slay the king and other state officials in 1605. The evening also acts as a reminder of the hazards faced by politicians.

You should not forget that Bonfire Night is not a recognized public holiday. It’s more of a custom remembered by protestants more than Catholics whose followers were responsible for the plot.
