Guy Fawkes Night  takes place yearly  on November 5. It is sometimes known as Bonfire Night and celebrates the anniversary the revelation of a conspiracy controlled by Catholic manipulators to bomb the Houses of Parliament in London in 1605. Lots of people ignite bonfires and discharge fireworks.

For you to understand story behind the reason we commemorate Bonfire Night, then you must learn the bygone days.

The evening can be traced to early 17th Century to the Gunpowder Plot. That year, a group of Catholic zealots rebelled against the Monarchy dissenting the injustice against Catholics.

In keeping with the reign of King James 1, Catholics was attacked. The reason was given that the monarchy endorsed Protestants. A group of catholic men reciprocated by flattening the Houses of parliament.

The device to be used for the devastation were drums of gunpowder set under the structures. They were to be exploded once the king and other office holders were inside parliament.

The assault was expected on 5th November in 1605. The schemers intended to murder the king in the melee including other famous officers in the parliament responsible for persecuting the Catholic church.

The planned assault was ineffective because state officials discovered the conspiracy before Guy Fawkes could detonate the gunpowder.

It is opined that the flopping of the Gunpowder Plot arose from squabbles between the people involved. A few grew disturbed with the plot because the devastation it would have effected, and one of the conspirators cautioned the authority by sending an unacknowledged letter.

The very same evening, those loyal to the King rejoiced the failed scheme and his safety by starting bonfires and blasting fireworks. From that time, it evolved into a regular occasion that has come down generations.

Bonfire Night is observed as a recognition of the failed endeavor by Catholic zealots to slay the king and other sovereign agents in 1605. The evening also functions as a pointer of the hazards faced by rulers.

You should remember that Bonfire Night is not a formal public holiday. It is similar to a custom commemorated by protestants more than Catholics whose followers were responsible for the scheme.
