Guy Fawkes Night  is held every year  on November 5. It is also nicknamed Bonfire Night and honors the day of observance of the revelation of a conspiracy controlled by Catholic machinators to bomb the Houses of Parliament in London in 1605. Many folks ignite bonfires and trigger fireworks.

For you to identify with the rationale why memorialise Bonfire Night, then you should be aware of the history.

The evening goes back to 1605 to the Gunpowder Plot. That year, a group of Catholic extremists rebelled against the Monarch in protest against the injustice against Catholics.

In accordance to the jurisdiction of King James 1, the Catholic Church was assailed. The justification for this was because the monarch backed Protestants. A few Catholic men revenged by blowing up the Houses of parliament.

The instrument to be used for the attack were containers of gunpowder put under the structures. They were to be exploded once the king and other representatives were in the confines of parliament.

The attack was expected on 5th November in 1605. The plotters desired to murder the monarch in the process including other noted figures within the parliament guilty of oppressing Catholics.

The planned assault did not go through as expected because law officers unearthed the ploy before Guy Fawkes could light the gunpowder.

It’s alleged that the flopping of the Gunpowder Plot was as a result of falling out among the planners. A few were uneasy with the plan due to the damage it would have caused, and one of the plotters notified the authority by sending an anonymous note.

That night, those devoted to the Monarchy toasted to the failed strategy and his safety by lighting bonfires and lighting fireworks. From then, it turned out to be a frequent function that has been passed down the generations.

Bonfire Night is honored as a recognition of the botched effort by Catholic zealots to do away with the king and other government officials in 1605. The evening also functions as a reminder of the risks faced by rulers.

You should not forget that Bonfire Night is not an authorized public holiday. It’s more of a ceremony commemorated by protestants more than Catholics whose faithful were responsible for the plot.
