For you to identify with why we honor Bonfire Night, then you must be informed of the past.

The day dates back to early 17th Century to the Gunpowder Plot. That year, a gathering of Catholic revolutionaries rose against the Monarch dissenting the mistreatment of the Catholic church.

Under the authority of King James 1, Catholics was attacked. That was due to the fact that the monarch endorsed Protestants. Some Catholic men retaliated by leveling the Houses of parliament.

The device to be used for the bombing were containers of gunpowder set under the house. They were to be sparked when the king and other representatives were in parliament.

The assault was expected on 5th November in 1605. The plotters intended to murder the monarch in the melee plus other renowned statesmen in the building blamed for persecuting Catholics.

The scheduled deed failed to launch since law enforcement unearthed the plan before Guy Fawkes could blow up the gunpowder.

It is rumored that the failure of the Gunpowder Plot was caused by squabbles among the people involved. A section of the planners were uncomfortable with the approach as a result of the damage it would have effected, and one of the plotters forewarned the rulers by sending an anonymous letter.

That night, those dedicated to the King toasted to the failed scheme and his well-being by starting bonfires and blasting fireworks. From that time, it evolved into a customary affair that has been passed down the generations.

Bonfire Night is observed as a testimonial of the failed endeavor by Catholic zealots to slay the monarch and other government officials in 1605. The evening also serves as a reminder of the danger faced by politicians.

You should not forget that Bonfire Night is not an authorized public holiday. It’s more like a ceremony honored by protestants more than Catholics whose adherents were responsible for the plot.
