For you to grasp the reason why people observe Bonfire Night, then you are supposed to be aware of the the yesteryears.

The day can be traced to 1605 to the Gunpowder Plot. That year, a group of Catholic fanatics went against the Monarchy objecting the persecution of Catholics.

In accordance to the leadership of King James 1, the Catholic religion came under fire. The reason was because the monarch was in favor of Protestants. A group of catholic men revenged by bombing the Houses of parliament.

The device to be used for the deed were casks of gunpowder situated beneath the building. They were to be sparked once the king and other office bearers were within parliament.

The assault was scheduled for 5th November in 1605. The schemers intended to assassinate the king in the action including other noted officers inside the parliament blamed for persecuting the Catholic faithful.

The expected devastation was ineffective after law enforcement learned of the ploy before Guy Fawkes could light the gunpowder.

It is alleged that the defeat of the Gunpowder Plot was as a result of disagreement among the planners. A few grew disturbed with the approach due to the losses it would have wrought, and one of them warned the state by sending an unsigned letter.

That night, those dedicated to the Monarch jubilated the botched conspiracy and his welfare by starting bonfires and setting off fireworks. Going forward, it turned out to be a customary affair that has seen many generations.

Bonfire Night is celebrated as a recognition of the unsuccessful attempt by Catholic fanatics to do away with the monarch and other sovereign agents in 1605. The night also remains an indication of the hazards faced by leaders.

You should note that Bonfire Night isn’t an authorized public holiday. It is nearer to a practice honored by protestants more than Catholics whose adherents were responsible for the plan.
