In accordance to the leadership of King James 1, Catholics came under attack. That was because the monarchy supported Protestants. A few Catholic men reciprocated by blowing up the Houses of parliament.

The weapon to be used for the assault were containers of gunpowder set under the structures. They were to be exploded while the king and other officials were in parliament.

The bombing was scheduled for 5th November in 1605. The conspirators desired to kill the king in the process and other renowned officers inside the building blamed for persecuting the Catholic church.

The planned assault was unsuccessful after state officials found out about the ploy before Guy Fawkes could detonate the gunpowder.

It is opined that the defeat of the Gunpowder Plot was due to squabbles among the plotters. Some grew disturbed with the plan as a result of the losses it would have wrought, and one of the conspirators notified the authority by sending an anonymous note.

The very same evening, those loyal to the Monarch celebrated the aborted conspiracy and his well-being by starting bonfires and lighting fireworks. Since then, it evolved into a frequent event that has come down generations.
