The evening dates back to fifth year of the seventeenth century to the Gunpowder Plot. That year, some Catholic zealots rose against the Monarch dissenting the oppression of the Catholic church.

Going by the rule of King James 1, Catholics came under fire. That was because the king backed Protestants. A few Catholic men revenged by detonating the Houses of parliament.

The contraption to be used for the devastation were containers of gunpowder located underneath the building. They were to be ignited the moment the king and other office holders were within parliament.

The bombing was scheduled for 5th November in 1605. The connivers hoped to slay the ruler in the process plus other prominent figures inside the parliament blamed for persecuting the Catholic faithful.

The planned deed was botched after the police learned of the plan before Guy Fawkes could detonate the gunpowder.

It’s alleged that the non-success of the Gunpowder Plot was as a result of squabbles between the schemers. Some were disturbed with the method as a result of the losses it would have wrought, and one of them warned the authority by sending an anonymous letter.

That night, those dedicated to the Monarch rejoiced the failed scheme and his well-being by lighting bonfires and setting off fireworks. From that time, it turned out to be a regular affair that has entertained lots of generations.

Bonfire Night is commemorated as a tribute of the ineffective endeavor by Catholic extremists to murder the monarch and other monarchy officials in 1605. The night also is a pointer of the risks faced by leaders.

You should not forget that Bonfire Night is not a formal public holiday. It is nearer to a ceremony celebrated by protestants more than Catholics whose followers were responsible for the scheme.
