Guy Fawkes Night  takes place yearly  on November 5. It is sometimes referred to as Bonfire Night and marks the anniversary the discovery of a conspiracy contrived by Catholic manipulators to explode the Houses of Parliament in London in 1605. Lots of participants ignite bonfires and discharge fireworks.

For you to know why we memorialise Bonfire Night, then you must be aware of the past.

The night originates fifth year of the seventeenth century to the Gunpowder Plot. That year, a crew of Catholic extremists rebelled against the King challenging the oppression of Catholics.

In keeping with the rule of King James 1, the Catholic Church was besotted. This unfolded because the king backed Protestants. Some Catholic men retaliated by detonating the Houses of parliament.

The device to be used for the devastation were casks of gunpowder situated beneath the structures. They were to be detonated the moment the king and other office holders were within parliament.

The offensive was planned for 5th November in 1605. The machinators desired to slay the king in the action plus other renowned officials inside the structure blamed for persecuting the Catholic church.

The scheduled assault was botched due to the fact that state officials became aware of the plot before Guy Fawkes could blow up the gunpowder.

It’s opined that the collapse of the Gunpowder Plot was caused by differences between the planners. A few were apprehensive with the approach due to the destruction it would have effected, and one of the conspirators warned the rulers by sending an anonymous letter.

The same evening, those loyal to the Monarch rejoiced the aborted conspiracy and his welfare by starting bonfires and lighting fireworks. From that day, it became a customary event that has come down generations.

Bonfire Night is commemorated as a recognition of the failed attempt by Catholic extremists to assassinate the king and other government representatives in 1605. The evening also serves as a pointer of the danger faced by statesmen.

You should remember that Bonfire Night is not a recognized public holiday. It’s more like a ritual celebrated by protestants more than Catholics whose followers were responsible for the plot.
