The device to be used for the devastation were drums of gunpowder situated beneath the building. They were to be ignited when the king and other office holders were inside parliament.   

The assault was planned for 5th November in 1605. The people behind the plot intended to execute the king in the process plus other prominent officials in the house behind the mistreatment of Catholics.

The expected attack aborted after state officials unearthed the plan before Guy Fawkes could blast off the gunpowder. 

It is asserted that the collapse of the Gunpowder Plot was as a result of falling out among the plotters. A few became uncomfortable with the strategy considering the devastation it would have wrought, and one of the conspirators forewarned the monarchy by sending an unsigned note. 

The same night, those loyal to the Monarchy jubilated the unsuccessful plot and his welfare by lighting bonfires and lighting fireworks. From that day, it turned out to be a regular function that has seen many generations.    

Bonfire Night is honored as a memory of the unsuccessful endeavor by Catholic zealots to murder the king and other sovereign agents in 1605. The night additionally remains a pointer of the risks faced by leaders.
