It’s asserted that the defeat of the Gunpowder Plot arose from falling out among the schemers. A section of the planners were uncomfortable with the strategy because the destruction it would have wrought, and one of the conspirators cautioned the monarchy by sending an unacknowledged note.
The same night, those faithful to the King rejoiced the aborted plot and his well-being by starting bonfires and exploding fireworks. Going forward, it became a regular function that has been passed down the generations.
